Deer Conservation in Scotland
At the start of 2025, I was invited to join and document a party of friends to go to Scotland to manage local deer populations. As you may be aware, deer have no predators in Scotland which has caused their population numbers to grow rapidly and out of control, which has a knock-on on effect to their surrounding environments. So the Scottish government has set out a call to British hunters to help reduce the numbers in an effort to control the population and regrow environments.
Our locations were just south of Fort William and with the Ardlussa Estate on Jura. I had experienced hunting in Southern Africa but was keen to understand the difference between traditional British Deer Stalking and that which I had already experienced. I won't go into my opinions here, but if you would like to hear more I would happily chat.
For now, please enjoy the videos and photographs below.
